AI stands for Adobe Illustrator. An AI file is a vector file format, and can be opened by other vector programs, but is usually created within Illustrator. The AI file is editable and is usually used for vector design projects like logos, typographic signs, posters, and other projects that require the ability to scale up and down without losing image quality.
